I was really disoriented by a coworker this morning after trying to explain to a lezbian friend of mine about what One Love Awareness Project was she was very excited but of course there is always someone trying to easedrop and made a comment about what Nick and many many people are trying to do, save a life and makes the boundary lines Not boundary lines at all. So I came to the defense of this well worth cause.. the part that got me was my lesbian friend backed down after sitting there excited and wanting to get involoved then one comment oh no can't do that. That is her choice but and I make get backlash for saying this but People seriously don't let the ignorance get you that is why there is the One Love Awareness Project, The Trevor Project and many others this is our time to make a difference but it has to start with US in our community before other communities will listen. There is some prjudice in our community and most of it just superficial stuff that honestly does not make a difference. To me this Project is about saving a life and also letting people know that yes I have denied healthcare, a home, been bashed and for what cause I'm different than you or don't believe in what you believe. We can as a united unit make a difference open some eyes and hopefully in time weaken those borderlines.

ReplyDeleteI begin by quoting from what I believe to be a powerful introduction to an amazing project prepared for triumph! Having just read this, I have utilized the lines quoted above to introduce my contribution to the efforts.
I truly stand by and promote the concept of researching and understanding prior to formulating an opinion, especially one that has the potential of destroying a being's life.
I am in the works of just that! I have conducted intense research to better understand and to ultimately educated and eradicate ignorance for those who have not done so and are still passing judgment and formulating devastating opinions. Along with a lifetime of personal experience, I'm into the tenth month of the 2nd year of book knowledge and resources for my research.

I am sorry to hear that Thom. I know some people are ignorant out of fear, because we fear what we do not know. Just try to reach out to the person who made the negative comment, and try to explain to them about the project. While I am not gay and do not know the prejudice that gay and lesbian people go through, my mom raised me to be tolerant of everyone, no matter what color, religion, or sex or whatever. We all need to come together, no matter how different we are, we are all still one on this earth.
